Starting at 15 years old in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Josh learned his most important life lesson while working at McDonald's: the power of simplicity. His manager taught him there was a ‘correct’ way to do everything. It didn’t matter if you were running the cash register or cleaning up bathrooms; the most effective way to do anything was always the simplest.

While many teens would’ve missed the bigger picture, Josh took this wisdom to heart. He soon realized that if you can find the simplest action to complete your tasks, you’ve discovered the most efficient way to accomplish your goals.

However, this wisdom applied farther than just behind the grill, as this pattern of simplicity came up at every step of his life.

At 19, Josh joined the Army and again saw that straightforward orders were the key to strong leadership and a high-functioning organization. He even appreciated the lessons learned from his drill sergeant about being concise in his actions and never settling for wasted effort. Embracing the simplicity of these commands, Josh soon thrived and took this mentality to his IT career.

Throwing himself into Iowa’s tech boom while working as a senior consultant at Taylor Business Group, Josh used his simple-solution mindset to gain first-hand knowledge of the IT industry and repeatedly delivered impactful results for his clients.

In 2006, Josh realized it was time to share the secret sauce that had given him so much success. Continuing to preach the power of simplicity, Josh hand-picked his team of consultants and launched Bering McKinley with the goal of advising business owners on improving their companies in the easiest, most straightforward way.
